We’re back with the next Monthly Game Smackdown! As a reminder, the MGS is where 4 games are picked at the beginning of the month and every week each game is played for an hour. Every Friday I’ll discuss what I find fun, or not, fun about each game based on the previous week’s game time.
It’s a new month and we have 4 “new” games attempting to win our affection. Here are the games and the results of the first hour of play for each.

Welcome back to the January finals of the Monthly Game Smackdown! As a reminder, the MGS is where 4 games are picked at the beginning of the month and every week each game is played for an hour.
You’ve paid for the entire seat but only needed the edge as your anticipation has become a palpable thing; condensation on the tubes that are these internets! Or, you’ve just wandered over from somewhere else in the ether. Either way, here are the results from our first smackdown!

Welcome back to the Monthly Game Smackdown! As a reminder, the MGS is where 4 games are picked at the beginning of the month and every week each game is played for an hour. Last week, I discussed the elimination of one game with our previous format of the smackdown. Not particularly satisfied with that, every Monday I’ll discuss what I find fun, or not, fun about the game based on the previous week’s game time.
It’s a new Monday and each of the games has had my attention now for two hours. Find out if initial impressions have changed with an extra hour behind the controls.

Welcome to the first Monthly Game Smackdown! The MGS is a battle between four games that we have either started and not felt like finishing, aren’t shiny new anymore, or for some other reason, are laying about waiting to be played. In the first week of the MGS, each of our contending games will be played for an hour. On every Monday I’ll eliminate and discuss the least fun of the previous week until only one stands victorious (or at least interesting and fun enough to play for 4 hours in a month).

PAX has come and gone again, leaving behind the bittersweet memories of the annual massive gaming “fix” that only serves to keep the appetite aroused.
Overall, it was fun. The immense size this year from taking over the entire convention center had all activities under one roof. The floor layout kept the bottlenecks to a bare minimum and the expo hall was filled with wondrous sights and sounds (for the most part).

It’s almost time for PAX! That magical weekend when the Washington State Convention and Trade Center becomes everything an arcade should be: a friendly and inviting place to play games (from the brand new to the time-honored), meet friends and people from the gaming industry, learn about the gaming industry, and basically get your geek on.
“PAX is a three-day celebration of games and gamer culture. The festival includes an exhibition floor filled with playable builds of upcoming tabletop, console, and computer games; a conference program of game industry speakers; music concerts; freeplay areas; industry parties; game tournaments and more. Since its inception in 2004 the show has doubled in size year-over-year, growing from 4,500 attendees to 58,500 in 2008, making it the largest gaming festival in North America.”

Welcome to the first GameBrainSpew survey! Since the elections are just around the corner, we wanted to get you ready to make your mark on the upcoming ballots. Unlike the monumental decisions facing you next month, the GBS survey is simple and fun and will not effect the outcome of your place in the free world. This will be a short one and will not go down on your permanent record as we test things out and see what you think.
