“Go down in the dungeon. Kill everything you meet. Backstab your friends and steal their stuff. Grab the treasure and run.
Admit it. You love it.
This award-winning card game, designed by Steve Jackson, captures the essence of the dungeon experience . . . with none of that stupid roleplaying stuff. You and your friends compete to kill monsters and grab magic items. And what magic items! Don the Horny Helmet and the Boots of Butt-Kicking. Wield the Staff of Napalm . . . or maybe the Chainsaw of Bloody Dismemberment. Start by slaughtering the Potted Plant and the Drooling Slime, and work your way up to the Plutonium Dragon . . .”

What the game gets right
Hilarity on every card! The wit and art are superb! The instructions are a bit long but very simple and after you’ve played once, it’s really easy to introduce to new players to the game. The pace is just right. This game will bring out your inner mercenary.
What the game gets wrong
In our after-party bliss we ran out and bought two expansions for the next game. That game was not as much fun due to what seems to be too many cards for too few players. It isn’t explained whether or not with each expansion deck you should add a max of 6 more players or not, (can someone clarify this for me?) but it would seem to be the case as the game seems to bog down in several turns of working down through the deck.
Sum it up
This game is a riot! If you like Dungeons and Dragons and have a sense of humor, this is the game to pick up for a quick session. If you have been trying to get people to play DnD with you, I would highly recommend using this game as a jumping off point.
On the other hand, if you think DnD is too “geeky” and enjoy making fun of those that play it, this is also the game for you as it does a wonderful job of picking on tabletop adventurers.

Yeah, I like this game WAY better than D&D. I never want to go back to all the role-playing and story-telling stuff (and the haggling over the rules!) now that I’ve played this. Everything I liked about D&D, and none of the stuff I don’t! Plus, people who aren’t familiar with D&D even like, even if they won’t touch D&D with a 10-foot pole. A great “after dinner with friends” kind of game.

I don’t understand how Munchkin is comparable to D&D. It seems an ‘apples to oranges’ comparison. Not that I dislike Munchkin! In fact, I’ve played my brother-in-law’s copy of the “secret agent” version, and it was quite enjoyable. I’d play it again.

Adam, if it was the secret agent version then, yeah, it couldn’t really be compared to D&D. Play the original and you’ll see the similarities.
