What the game gets right

The interface is sweet and makes sense. The map zoom is a really cool even though I found myself zoomed out to a large minimap most of the time, just to keep up with what was happening. Buildings can be created anywhere. Add to this a vast array of cool looking unit types and then take away storming the gates and you’ve got yourself what feels like a very advanced strategy game.

What the game gets wrong

To fully appreciate this game would seem to require 2 monitors, multi-core processor(s), and lots of RAM. For those of us that are either a. poor, or b. happy with the system we have, this will probably limit how much fun this game could be.

The campaign in the demo seems a little too stereotypical that, as the AI resistance force, your interface is red and your commander has a Russian accent. Why not a Jamaican accent? Indian? How about a white interface for the army that is not-some-Earth-government-which-is-not-so-subtly-run-by-Americans?

Sum it up

If you have the system and if you think the standard rts games are limiting in any way, this is probably a game to at least try out the demo before making your final purchasing decision. Also, make sure you have the latest driver for your graphics card (and that it’s a decent card) other wise the demo will look buggy going to the menu.

I personally can’t figure out how to get the most out of this game as I spent all of my time building and then grabbing a large contingent and sending them on their way so that I could build some more. Somewhere in this observation is why I’m not very good at RTS games.
